According to TMZ, who spoke with “sources with direct knowledge,” Lionel Richie is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU). The news outlet reports that the singer went to the hospital after his Saturday night (August 29) performance at The Muny in Forest Park, Missouri.

TMZ also states that Richie was just being cautious, especially since he asked for his team to bring him a chair at the end of the show while performing “All Night Long.”

Doctors are apparently looking into dehydration, with hopes that he will be discharged on Tuesday (September 1).

His next show is scheduled for September 26th in San Francisco, California.

Lionel Richie Has Been Battling Some Health Issues

On June 24, Richie opened his tour in St. Paul, Minnesota, but about an hour into the show, he had an unplanned intermission. Before pausing the show, he told the crowd that he felt a bit dizzy.

According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, he even had to sit down while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling.” Richie told the crowd it was the first time in his career he had needed to do that.

“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” Richie said to the crowd.

After sitting down, he played one more song, “Three Times A Lady.” Reports say the proposed intermission took around 40 minutes before the remainder of the show was cancelled.

His team later postponed two shows, saying,

“Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH. He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”

According to TMZ, Richie met with paramedics when he left the stage and went to the hospital as a precaution in an ambulance.

On July 4, Richie said he was “doing well,” and was ready to get back onstage.
