Texas Rangers Forgo Pride Night
Out of the 30 Major League Baseball teams, the Texas Rangers remain the only franchise that does not celebrate “Pride Night.”
MLB Pride Night is an event hosted by the teams to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. During Pride Night games, teams may feature special on-field ceremonies, LGBTQ+ community partnerships, and themed merchandise.
The events are typically held during Pride Month in June.
To this day, the Rangers have continued to keep Pride Night off their agenda during the month of June. The team does, however, host an annual Faith & Family Night.
“Our longstanding commitment remains the same: To make everyone feel welcome and included in Rangers baseball — in our ballpark, at every game, and in all we do — for both our fans and our employees. We deliver on that promise across our many programs to have a positive impact across our entire community,” the Rangers said back in 2024.
The dedicated night, held on Thursday (June 18), also included some of the players sharing about their faith.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised the event, saying leaders in Texas “protected” those living out their faith.
“The Texas Rangers are the only The Texas Rangers are the only team in Major League Baseball that doesn’t host a Pride Night,” Abbott wrote on X. “This week, they’re hosting Faith and Family Night instead. Meanwhile, MLB just warned Giants pitchers for writing Bible verses on their own caps. In Texas, we don’t punish people for living out their faith. We protect that right.”
