The very first People’s Choice Country Awards was hosted by Little Big Town at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, Thursday night. It was a night to remember as some of the genre’s biggest stars were honored at the inaugural fan-voted event. Here’s what you need to know about The Male Artist of 2023 nominees and the category winner!
The eight country music artists in the running for The Male Artist of 2023 at the People’s Choice Country Awards this year were Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown, Zach Bryan, Blake Shelton, Bailey Zimmerman, and HARDY.
Each of these artists have been on fire this year so it was truly hard to predict who would come out as the winner. However, we’re about to dive into what made these artists worthy enough to have been nominated to take home The Male Artist of 2023 award.

Wallen has been dominating 2023 with multiple songs rising to the top of the charts, including “Last Night,” which ranked #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Billboard, he’s the leading nominee with 11 nods for the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards.
Luke Combs has also been crushing it with “Fast Car,” which is a song written by Tracy Chapman in 1988, but his 2023 rendition of it rose to the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts tailing right behind Wallen’s “Last Night.” In fact, when that happened, it was the first time in 42 years that country songs took over the top two spots on the highly competitive chart.
Jelly Roll has been on the road this 2023 with this Backroad Baptism tour which kicked off July 28th. Also, his song “Son of a Sinner” became his first song to go #1 on Country Radio, in addition to, his 2023 Hulu documentary Jelly Roll: Save Me being released. He could easily take home The Male Artist of 2023 award.
Kane Brown has been setting a blaze on every stage he steps on during his 2023 “Drunk or Dreaming” Tour with his beautiful song about his wife Katelyn called “Thank God.” His Stagecoach performance has also been said to be not only his best but one of THE BEST showmanship performances for a country music artist in 2023. So watch out everyone, don’t be surprised if he takes home The Male Artist of 2023 award.
Zach Bryan could be the one who takes home the award because of his song “I Remember Everything” featuring Kacey Musgraves which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 100. He’s also received the Academy of Country Music Award for New Male Artist of the Year.
Blake Shelton just ended his 23rd season of The Voice in 2023 and when he’s not singing newly made-up on-the-spot songs while driving his farm equipment at his home in Oklahoma, he’s been on the road performing on his Back to the Honky Tonk Tour. Blake Shelton has an almost endless amount of reasons why he might win The Male Artist of 2023 award.
Zimmerman performed at the 2023 ACM Honors singing one of HARDY’s hits, “Signed, Sober You,” as well as, debuted his album called, Religiously. The Album, that was released on May 12, 2023. He’s also released a few songs like “Religiously,” “Won’t Back Down,” and “Chase Her” that have been connecting with a lot of people.
HARDY could be the one who wins The Male Artist of 2023 after releasing his most recent album, The Mockingbird & The Crow, where he co-wrote 17 songs, including “Wait in the Truck” which is a duet with Lainey Wilson. That song went to number five on Billboard’s US Hot Country Songs.
Jelly Roll was unable to attend the ceremony because he had a concert in Cincinnati. But Elle King presented the award to him at his show, and he celebrated in front of his audience.
“This was fan voted, this is for the fans…The underdogs are back on top baby!” he said.
