Top 3 Contestants Emerge on ‘American Idol’ After Double Elimination

American Idol/Top 5

With only one week left until a new American Idol is crowned, the Top 5 contestants of Season 22 headed to Disney World where they prepared to perform Disney songs for place in next week’s finale.

The five remaining Idol hopefuls spent the week at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Emmy Russell, Abi Carter, Will Mosely, Triston Harper and Jack Blocker had the privilege of being mentored by country music great Kane Brown ahead of Sunday night’s performances.

The semi-final episode opened with judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan singing a playful rendition of Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” from Toy Story.

Each contestant then performed two different Disney songs during the two-hour episode. Voting was open throughout and two contestants were eliminated at the end of the episode.

Host Ryan Seacrest named the following semi-finalists who were moving on to next week’s finale: Abi Carter, Will Mosely and Jack Carter. Unfortunately, Emmy Russell and Triston Harper.  were sent home after weeks of grueling competition.

Emmy Russell became a fan favorite from the time her audition aired. The soft-spoken granddaughter of country music legend Loretta Lynn won America’s hearts with her original song, “Skinny.” In the weeks that followed, viewers saw Emmy blossom into a confident vocalist while remaining humble and real. She will surely be missed on the Idol stage, but we’re certain this is just the beginning for her.

The youngest contestant of the season, 15-year-old Triston Harper brought his rich country voice to the competition. Week after week he delivered consistent performances, most of which were country hits, proving that his future in the genre is bright.

The Top 3 will be headed to their hometowns, where family and friends will rally around them to celebrate their American Idol success. In years past, Idol finalists have participated in parades and delivered performances for the homecoming, marking a significant milestone in their journey.

Tune in May 19th for a 3-hour season finale and see who will be crowned this year’s American Idol.
