The Voice has returned for its 25th season. During the 3rd episode, which aired on March 4th, a 49-year-old singer named Bryan Olesen walked on stage.

He performed OneRepublic’s “Love Runs Out” and within two lines of the song, he had three chairs turned around. Reba McEntire, John Legend, and Dan + Shay wasted no time to try and get him on their team.

Legend told Olesen that it was “the best audition we’ve seen,” while Reba told him that she turned because she could feel the performance without even seeing him and when she did turn around, “the package was complete.”

They brought his daughter out, who Olesen revealed was also a singer. The band was prepared with a song she could sing for the coaches, which was “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae. Olesen ended up choosing John Legend as his coach and the crowd went wild!

Despite the high accolades, some fans of The Voice are up in arms after finding out he was in a successful band.

See some comments below.

“Look him up. He is already an established musician that has been part of a Grammy nominated band”

“I don’t think someone established should compete. Let someone who has not had the opportunity have the spot.”

“Love the concept but between letting America vote (popularity) and now allowing someone from the music industry compete? You’ve lost this viewer for good.”

Who Is Bryan Olesen?

Bryan Olesen is a musician who is best known for being a guitarist for the Christian rock band Newsboys from February 2004-January 2006. During his time with the band, they were nominated for several Dove Awards including Worship Song of the Year, Song of the Year, Praise & Worship Album of the Year, and Group of the Year.

While Voice viewers online have said that he was nominated for a Grammy, he actually was not. News boys has been nominated for multiple Grammys, but never when Olesen was their guitar player.

Olesen has also the lead singer of the Christian band VOTA since 1997. They have released seven albums since their inception, but it looks like Olesen is trying to go out on his own.

Olesen isn’t breaking any rules by auditioning for The Voice. Plus, he isn’t the first “established” musician to try to get his big break!
