Country artist Zach Top may still be a year out from releasing his fourth studio album, but that doesn’t mean he’s not ready to release new music.

On Friday, Aug. 21, the 28-year-old known for his penchant for traditional country music released a new EP.

Titled after its single, the Good Girls & Cowgirls EP may be just enough to stave off the cravings of his most devoted fans… and the lead single is catchy enough to lure in new fans as well.

Following the success of his 2024 album Cold Beer & Country Music and his 2025 album Ain’t In It For My Health, this new EP finds Zach Top working with a catchy tune and witty lyricism — the things that have helped make him a rising star in country music.

Leading the two-track EP is the title track, “Good Girls & Cowgirls.”

It’s a bluesy country song, and it revels in the differences between girls you can take “to church” and those who are more on the “wild side.”

Throughout the song, the divide between the so-called “good girls” and the “cowgirls” is defined, with good girls being made of “sugar and spice,” while cowgirls, he says, are “made of whiskey and ice.”

With great humor, Zach sings:

“Good girls, you can take home to Momma’s / Take ‘em to church when they want you to/ They’re everything nice and not much drama / If that’s your thing, that’s good for you.”

On the other hand, Zach sings the following of what cowgirls offer:

“Cowgirls like to take it outside / They love to dance and they know how to ride / They’ll do things to make you lose your mind / But, when the chips are down, they’ll be by your side.”

Zach had previously released a video of an acoustic version of the song “Good Girls & Cowgirls,” but the song takes on a new aura with the accompaniment of a full band.

The other song on this two-track EP is titled “Other Side of Hurtin’,” which he has performed live on a few occasions ahead of this Aug. 21 release. (Video from one of those performances can be seen below.)

Interestingly, “Other Side of Hurtin'” is tonally quite different from the EP’s title track, slowing down and finding Zach perform a country ballad that sounds worthy of last call at a dark bar.

At 10 a.m., a video of Zach Top performing the acoustic version of “Other Side of Hurtin'” will be released on YouTube.
