The 2023 CMA Awards are well underway at the Bridgestone arena in Nashville, Tennessee, and have given fans plenty of dynamite performances, collaborations and unexpected moments.

Winning a CMA Award is one of the greatest accomplishments an artist can achieve in country music. While winning any category is an accomplishment in itself, one of the hardest categories to win is the Male Vocalist of the Year due to the extreme level of talent these nominees possess.

This Year’s Male Vocalist of the Year Nominees are Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson and Jelly Roll.

Luke Combs

Luke Combs is up for some of the night’s biggest awards, including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for his cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” Combs has previously won this category twice (2019 and 2020).

Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen has had a fantastic year with the release of his album, One Thing at a Time. This man never disappoints. Well, except for when he cut off his mullet. That was disappointing. This marks the second year in a row that Wallen has been in the running for the Male Vocalist of the Year title. He is also up for Entertainer of the Year.

Chris Stapleton

Chris Stapleton…What a legend. With the release of his most recent album, Higher, and his duet with Carly Pearce, he’s had a pretty fantastic year. The reigning Male Vocalist of the Year, Stapleton has dominated this category since 2015 when he made his CMA debut and changed country music forever. Between 2015 and 2022 the singer took home six Male Vocalist of the Year trophies.

Cody Johnson

What’s not to love about CoJo? Fans fell more in love with Cody Johnson after he released “The Painter,” a heartfelt tribute song to his wife of 14 years. The “‘Til You Can’t” singer bagged two CMA Awards last year for Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year, and won a CMT Music Award earlier this year for Performance of the Year. His latest LP, Leather, really proves that he deserves this nomination for 2023 CMA Male Vocalist of the Year.

Jelly Roll

While Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen are well-known for their country roots, Jelly Roll has taken the country music industry by storm this year. His album, Whitsitt Chapel, officially marked his crossover into country music gaining the love of country music fans all over the world. Jelly Roll won three CMT Awards earlier this year for his popular song “Son of a Sinner.” Will he be adding a CMA Award for Male Vocalist of the Year to his collection of country music awards?
