Shania Twain released “You’re Still The One” on January 13, 1998, as the first pop radio single from her album Come On Over. It was released to country radio as the third single off the album on  February 13, 1998.

It reached number one on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart as well as the Adult Contemporary chart, while the song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in 21 other countries. Not only did “You’re Still The One” perform well with the fans, it was also nominated for four  Grammys including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Shania took home the Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

Who wrote “You’re Still The One”?

Shania Twain wrote “You’re Still The One” with her then-husband, Mutt Lange. It was inspired by the public criticism of her marriage and the couple celebrating their love and making it through all the hard times.

As we all know, the union did not last forever. Shania left her husband in 2008 after she discovered his affair with her good friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Frédéric Thiébaud, Marie-Anne’s then-husband, informed Shania of the affair. They confided in each other during their respective divorces and ended up falling in love.

Shania and Frédéric were married on New Year’s Day in 2011.

Does “You’re Still The One” have an accompanying music video?

Shania released a black-and-white music video that was filmed on a beach in Malibu, California. The video for “You’re Still The One” was nominated for Best Female Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. This nomination made her the first female country singer to be nominated for an MTV Video Music Award!

“You’re Still The One” has stood the test of time and is still popular today, 26 years later.

Even though the song’s inspiration didn’t make it, so many couples have chosen this song to have as their first dance at their weddings. “Looks like we made it, look how far we’ve come , my baby,” is so inspirational for any couple! Watch Shania perform it back in 1998.
