Give My Country Back is a personal and patriotic record from Lewis, who co-wrote five of the album’s songs. He worked alongside  Jeffrey Steele, Bobby Pinson, Casey Bethard, and Travis Meadows to craft the record, with Sol Philcox-Littlefield serving as the producer.

The album explores a variety of themes as it delves into the lessons Lewis has learned over his 54 years of life.

“This is the perfect record for where I’m at right now,” Lewis said in a press release. “As you get older, you start realizing your time is coming to a close. I wasn’t living as cleanly as possible, so I quit drinking. I quit smoking cigarettes. I’ve done some kickboxing. I’m on a healthier routine, and I want to get better before I can’t.”

He added, “The realization that life is more than half over will get you to change, if you allow it. That’s where I’m at.”

The Meaning Behind Aaron Lewis’ New Album & Song, Give My Country Back

The first song Aaron Lewis released from his new album was its title track. “Give My Country Back” was made available to fans on May 22nd.

The fiery song is unapologetic with its message: those who don’t like the United States (especially if they’re in a position of power) can “give” it back and leave if they so choose.

As the lyrics go:

“If you don’t like my country, you can give my country back,
Yeah, I don’t mind you leaving, hell, I’ll even help you pack,
Take a bus, a plane, a truck, a train,
To where they like the way you act,
If you don’t like my country, you can give my country back.”

“Give My Country Back” also pays tribute to the American heroes who serve to protect the country’s freedoms. Lewis shares how he, and others who aren’t ashamed to proclaim their love for the USA, are proud of the nation’s servicemembers for doing “what they did to make it all worth dying for.”

Speaking about the song and its message, Lewis said:

“I actually care about the fact we have people we put in their positions, who are in no way, shape, or form doing anything in any way that is better for us.”

In sharing how music is his “life,” Lewis said that every single song on his new album, from “The Door” to “Too High For This,” will give fans the chance to know him better than ever before, perhaps even more than he knows himself.
