Kellie Pickler is one of the biggest stars to come out of American Idol. While Pickler didn’t win her season, she won us over with her down-home southern charm and amazing sense of humor.
But, there’s another side to Kellie that fans got to see in 2012 when she shaved her head in solidarity with her best friend, Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
At one point, Pickler stopped by The Ellen Show, where the talk show host shaved her initials in Pickler’s hair.
The two women appeared on Good Morning America together where they shaved their head just before Miller was set to start cancer treatments.
Several months later, the childhood best friends returned to GMA where Kellie performed her song “Someone Somewhere Tonight,” a touching slow song about life changes. Originally cut by Kenny Rogers, the power ballad is filled with emotion, especially when Pickler sang it to her friend in front of a live audience.
“It’s so real and it’s so true and people need to hear it,” Kellie said of the song, and we couldn’t agree more. With powerful lyrics speaking of first steps, first kisses, last rites and last breaths, “Someone Somewhere Tonight” is a song that everyone can relate to.
