Is there anything better than a rowdy performance from Hank Williams Jr.? The answer is no!

Hank Jr. was on hand to host the 21st annual salute to country music’s best artists and songs, the Music City News Awards Show, in 1987. He hosted the show alongside Marie Osmond and Johnny Cash.

The Music City News Awards Show later turned into the CMT Music Awards in 2005 after testing out a couple other names, but we will always have a soft spot in our hearts for when it was called Music City News Awards Show because of ol’ Bocephus’ awesome hosting duties.

As well as putting his hosting skills to the test, Hank Jr. also performed his just-released tune, “Born To Boogie.” His performance was upbeat, catchy, and will make you want to, well, boogie! Hank Jr.’s lyrics are autobiographical and detail true events including going on tour when he was just eight years old, and “stealing the show” when he was 15.

“Born to Boogie” was released in June of 1987 as the lead single from Hank Jr.‘s album of the same name. It went to number one on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart and has become one of his most popular songs to date.
