Trisha Takes On Powerful Role

In March 2016, Trisha Yearwood starred as Jesus’ mother Mary in Fox‘s live musical special called The Passion. The special told the emotional story of the last hours of Jesus’ life in a contemporary setting along with contemporary songs.

Following a procession of a glowing cross through the streets of New Orleans where the special was filmed, Yearwood stepped out to perform one of the many songs she sang that night, Lifehouse’s “Broken.”

A Beautiful Sight To See

While standing at the foot of the cross, with her hand resting on top of it, Yearwood started off singing softly. Within mere seconds, some of the people in the crowd were already in tears, and Yearwood appeared to be fighting back tears of her own.

But she couldn’t control her tears by the time she got to the end of the song, as she belted out the emotional lyrics and sang, “I’m holdin’ on.” As the camera moved through the audience, it became clear how many people were touched by Yearwood’s powerful performance.

The morning after The Passion aired, Yearwood shared a post on her Facebook page expressing her feelings about her role in the special:

“I woke up this morning feeling so blessed and grateful. Thank you for your well wishes and prayers. I felt your strength last night. God bless you all and thank you to The Passion Live for renewing my spirit and strengthening my faith.”
