Brad Paisley Performs Emotional “When I Get Where I’m Going” At First Show After Dolly’s Passing

Brad Paisley was on a short hiatus from his BRAD PAISLEY LIVE tour when Dolly Parton passed away on August 25th following a brief battle with cancer.
Like so many others, he was heartbroken to hear the news and took to social media to pay tribute.

Unlike most or the tributes online, Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton had a unique connection, having recorded the emotional song “When I Get Where I’m Going” in 2005. The song was well-received when they released it, and won Vocal Event of the Year at the CMA Awards and the ACM Awards, as well as Video of the Year at the ACMs.
Paisley’s social media tribute included a clip of their music video, which is about the afterlife free of pain and sorrow, alongside the caption:
“I never imagined this day would come. Getting to know Dolly was life changing, but not just for me. For everyone. She seemed immortal. And in the spirit of what we sang together on this song, I believe she is. It won’t be the same down here without you Dolly. But what a legacy of goodness and art you leave for all of us.
Goodbye hero. We will always love you.”

His wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, also honored the late legend with a sweet story about first meeting Dolly when she recorded this song with Brad, and then working with her just a few years ago on a Netflix series about her song “Jolene.”
“Dolly did so much good in her beautiful life on earth, from helping kids learn to love to read, to inspiring so many people to love each other well. In addition to her astounding talent, she was an incredible business woman and philanthropist. Dolly will always live on in her music and in our hearts. And we will always love her,” Williams-Paisley ended her lovely tribute.
Brad Paisley Honored Dolly At Hist First Show Since She Passed Away
Paisley’s tour resumed on August 27th, two days after Dolly’s passing, so fans knew they would be seeing a tribute from the country singer.
He performed at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he performed 20 of his biggest songs and added in one that he normally doesn’t play: “When I Get Where I’m Going.”
About 12 songs in, Brad Paisley’s band went off stage to take a break and the singer began picking at his acoustic guitar. It didn’t sound like any particular song, so fans continued chattering in the background.
But once he began playing the musical introduction to “When I Get Where I’m Going,” you can hear an audible reaction from the crowd, and one woman even said, “Oh boy…”
Fans sang along to the emotional song, and it appeared that it was a bit difficult for Paisley to get through the song. During the first chorus, photos of Dolly Parton from throughout the years appeared on the screens behind him.
In the final chorus, he displayed two photos of him and Dolly, ending the song with angelic riffs with “We love you, Dolly” written on the screen.
The black and white photo of her turned color, making the moment more emotional. After he finished the song, Paisley turned around and stared at Dolly’s photo with his hands on his heart.
