Carrie Underwood & Luke Bryan Thrill Sold-Out Crowd By Teaming Up For Surprise ’90s Country Cover

Luke Bryan hosted a celebratory Luke Bryan & Friends concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Thursday, September 24. The event was held just a few days after Bryan released his ninth studio album, Signs, on September 18.
As the name implies, those who attended the sold-out show were treated to exciting performances from Bryan and a few of his famous friends. Those friends were Chris Stapleton, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Kane Brown, Dierks Bentley, and Carrie Underwood.
Bryan had a few surprises up his sleeve that night, including a ’90s country duet with Underwood! The crowd was thrilled when Underwood joined him onstage to sing Diamond Rio’s “Meet in the Middle.”
“Meet in the Middle” was released by Diamond Rio in February 1991. It was the group’s debut single, and it immediately put them on the map.
The song reached #1 on what is now Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart, making Diamond Rio the first country music group to ever have their debut single top the ranking. The track has since been certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA, and is often named as one of the greatest ’90s country songs of all time.

Bryan and Underwood brought some serious energy and enthusiasm to their surprise performance of “Meet in the Middle.” They looked like they were having the time of their lives onstage as they entertained the audience with their duet!

Luke Bryan And Carrie Underwood Also Had A Big Surprise In Store For American Idol Fans
Bryan and Underwood’s duet was just one surprise they had in store for the sold-out crowd at the Luke Bryan & Friends concert. They took the opportunity to break some huge news about the next season of American Idol.
Bryan and Underwood have served as co-judges on American Idol for two seasons alongside Lionel Richie. Underwood (who won Season 4 of Idol in 2005) just joined the show last year (2025), while Bryan and Richie have been on the panel since 2018.
Idol is already preparing for its 25th season, which is set to premiere in early 2027. While onstage in Nashville, Bryan and Underwood confirmed that they’re coming back, and so is Richie!
They also shared that the show’s longtime host, Ryan Seacrest, will be returning too.
The announcement arrives amid reports that Idol may be moving its production from Los Angeles to Atlanta, Georgia. Both Bryan and Seacrest are Georgia natives, so this move would bring them closer to home.
