Carrie Underwood’s First Concert Was An Alan Jackson Show…She Just Sang At His Last

Alan Jackson was the first artist Carrie Underwood ever saw in concert. She likely never imagined she’d one day be singing at his final show.
After being diagnosed with a degenerative nerve condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, Jackson made the decision to retire from his live performance career. Following a multi-year “Last Call” tour, that career came to a conclusion on Saturday, June 27th, at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.
Alan wasn’t the only artist on the bill. Artists such as Riley Green, George Strait, Lainey Wilson, and Luke Bryan took turns sharing tributes to him throughout the evening.
Carrie Underwood also stepped onstage to honor Jackson at the sold-out show.
She performed a hidden gem from Jackson’s catalog, 1997’s “Everything I Love.” The song was the second single and title track from his album of the same name.
“Everything I Love” reached the 9th spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart following its release. It peaked at #6 on the country chart in Canada.
Before singing the ’90s country hit, Underwood spoke about how she sat in the bleachers to watch Jackson perform at the first concert she ever attended.”Obviously, it made a huge impression,” she said.
Underwood continued to say, “…it was still one of the greatest concert experiences that I have ever experienced. And I bet tonight will eclipse that somehow.”
Then, Underwood delivered a gorgeous, respectful cover of “Everything I Love.” Her performance was full of raw emotion, and we’re sure she had more than a few people tearing up in the crowd.

Carrie Underwood Previously Sang “Remember When” To Honor Alan At The CMA Awards
Besides the 2016 mega-mashup “Forever Country,” Carrie Underwood and Alan Jackson have never recorded a song together. But she has performed in his honor before.
In 2022, the CMA recognized Jackson with its prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. A tribute medley during that year’s CMA Awards opened with a tender performance from Underwood, who sang a small portion of “Remember When.”
She stopped singing to say:
“It’s my honor to be here tonight as we honor Alan Jackson with the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. The very first concert I ever went to was an Alan Jackson concert. Seeing him perform helped inspire me to pursue my dreams.”
Underwood continued, “It’s been said that country music is three chords and the truth, and in every one of Alan Jackson’s songs, there is truth. For his powerful voice speaks to us about hope, and heartache, about fun and friendship, about tragedy and triumph, about life, and a little ’bout love.”
After Underwood spoke, Dierks Bentley, Jon Pardi, and Lainey Wilson delivered tributes to Jackson before he took to the stage himself, putting on a lively performance of “Don’t Rock the Jukebox.” Once the song ended, Underwood proudly stood by his side and held his trophy while he delivered his acceptance speech.
