Dolly Parton’s death will leave a hole in the hearts of countless country fans. Her music is one of the many ways her legacy will live on.

But thanks to all the artists who admired her (which is everyone), her music will live on forever by them performing her songs.

During his set, he took time to pay tribute to Dolly Parton, who passed away one day prior, on August 25. The soulful country singer put his own spin on Parton’s iconic song “I Will Always Love You.”

It’s clear he didn’t announce the tribute, because the crowd reacted surprised and emotional when he sang the opening lyric, “If I…”

According to videos from fans in the audience, the screens behind Stapleton were adorned with a black-and-white photo of Dolly Parton.

After he finished his rendition, he simply said, “Thank you, Dolly,” as the audience was giving him – and Dolly – and well-deserved round of applause.

We know there will be a Dolly Parton tribute at all the upcoming award shows, and after this performance, we nominate Chris to be part of them.
