Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood Announce New Duet Together
Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood are two of country music’s most loved artists, and fans will soon get to hear their voices harmonize together.
On September 17, Cody Johnson announced on social media that he and Carrie Underwood are releasing a duet titled “I’m Gonna Love You.”
“Thrilled to announce that “I’m Gonna Love You” is coming out next Friday, 9/27. Thank you [Carrie Underwood] for joining me on this one and making it so special. Can’t wait for y’all to hear it,” Johnson wrote in the caption of the announcement.
Cody Johnson Says “I’m Gonna Love You” Wasn’t Originally a Duet
Although Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood seem like a musical match made from heaven, a video posted by Johnson reveals that the song was not originally intended as a duet.
In the video, Cody Johnson and songwriter Travis Denning discuss how “I’m Gonna Love You” came to be. Denning shares that he originally cut the song back in 2019, and the demo featured a female harmony. He explains that when it came time to find someone to sing on the track, his mindset was to “shoot for the stars” and go big. Although the name Denning mentioned was censored out in the video, it’s assumed he was referring to Carrie Underwood.
