Tulsi Gabbard Resigns From Trump Administration Amid Husband’s Cancer Battle

The United States Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, is stepping down from President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, resigning from her role effective June 30.

According to Fox News, Gabbard informed Trump of her decision during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday. In her resignation letter, she cited her husband Abraham Williams’ recent diagnosis with “an extremely rare form of bone cancer” as the reason for leaving the administration.

“I must submit my resignation,” Gabbard wrote, explaining that she needed to focus on supporting her husband through treatment.

Who Is Tulsi Gabbard?

Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii who later joined the Republican Party, had served as Trump’s intelligence chief since February 2025. Her tenure included several high-profile controversies and reported tensions within the administration, particularly surrounding intelligence assessments related to Iran.

“At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she said.

Reuters reported that speculation about Gabbard’s future in the administration had intensified in recent months amid disagreements over national security policy, though her resignation letter focused on family health concerns.

“Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage — standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, multiple political campaigns and now my service in this role,” Gabbard continues.
