Dutton Ranch Showrunner Chad Feehan Left The Series Shortly Before Its Premiere

Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler will soon be the stars of their own Yellowstone spin-off. Titled Dutton Ranch, the series will follow Beth, Rip, and their “adopted son,” Carter, as they begin a new life (and new ranch) in Texas.

The series’ official logline from Paramount+ reads:

“As Beth and Rip fight to build a future together – far from the ghosts of Yellowstone – they collide with brutal new realities and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire. In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the cost of survival might just be your soul.

Dutton Ranch debuts on Friday, May 15, with the release of two episodes on Paramount+

Just last week, the show dropped its first full-length trailer. The fiery, dramatic clip shows Beth and Rip gearing up for a fight and introduces several new characters.

But Dutton Ranch recently experienced a serious shakeup when showrunner Chad Feehan suddenly left the series three weeks before its premiere.

On April 24th, Variety confirmed that Feehan will not return if Dutton Ranch gets picked up for a second season.

A report from Puck alleged that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, 101 Studios Boss David Glasser, and actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser were “unsatisfied with Feehan’s handling of the production upon completion of the first season.”

This fueled rumors that Feehan was fired from the spin-off series…

Christina Voros Breaks Silence About Feehan’s Departure

Christina Voros, an executive producer and director on Dutton Ranch, addressed Feehan’s departure during a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley.

Voros opened by praising Feehan, saying he “[did] an exceptional job building a world of adversaries for Rip and Beth.” She added that she is “grateful to him and his team for creating a world for these characters to move into.”

Voros hesitated to say much about Feehan’s exit as she continued. She didn’t go into detail about the “dynamics behind [Feehan’s] departure” from the series.

Since the show “[hasn’t] come out into the world yet,” Voros says it is “beyond [her] knowledge” to guess what it will look like without Feehan on the crew.

ScreenRant reports that Feehan has been removed as a showrunner for the series going forward, but retains credit through its current release.

A new showrunner for Dutton Ranch has not yet been named. But we could expect such an announcement if the series is renewed. ScreenRant notes that Jacob Forman, J. Todd Scott, and Hilary Scott are among those who wrote multiple episodes of the series, making them potential candidates for the position in the future.
