Elon Musk’s DOGE Department Slashes Over 200,000 Government Credit Cards

New Audit Aims To Rein In Billions In Federal Spending
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was founded by Donald Trump during his second term. Simply put, the department’s main goal is to find government fraud and save the American taxpayer money.
Elon Musk is leading the charge.
His department shares DOGE updates with the American people on his platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Recently, DOGE shared on their X account that,
“Pilot program with 16 agencies to audit unused/unneeded credit cards. After 3 weeks, >200,000 cards have been de-activated.”
According to Fox News, “In total, 204,801 credit cards have been canceled, consisting of 171,120 travel cards and 33,681 purchase cards.”
The department has found over 200,000 credit cards that are either unused or unneeded. There are currently no projected numbers as to exactly how much this will save the American public.
However, according to Fox “Last month, DOGE said the 4.6 million credit cards were used for 90 million unique transactions, totaling around $40 billion worth of spending in FY24.” This means that just by canceling credit cards, there is a potential that it can save the government billions of dollars.
The department is not done and plans on canceling more credit cards in the future. DOGE ended the X post by saying.
“As a reminder, at the start of the audit, there were ~4.6M active cards/accounts, so still more work to do.”
The departments that had credit cards canceled Include:
- General Services Administration (GSA)
- The Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
- The Labor Department
- The Small Business Administration (SBA)
- The Education Department
- The Interior Department
- The Treasury Department
- The Commerce Department
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- The Agriculture Department (USDA)
- NASA
- Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
- Homeland Security
- Social Security Department
- Department of Housing and Urban Development
Donald Trump Supports DOGE Efforts
President Trump has consistently expressed his strong support for Musk’s initiatives. Donald Trump shared his latest endorsement in a post on Truth Social.
“To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is “putting it on the line” in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s “baby,” in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for. They tried to do it to me at the 2024 Presidential Ballot Box, but how did that work out?”
