Only two episodes of the new George & Tammy miniseries have aired so far. But one of its stars is already receiving recognition for her performance.
After being in the making for years, George & Tammy debuted on December 4. The miniseries follows the lives of country music legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette, who married in 1969 and divorced in 1975.
Michael Shannon plays George, while Jessica Chastain plays Tammy.
George & Tammy is already a smash success. The show set a ratings record after its premiere drew in 3.3 million Live+Same Day linear viewers on Showtime, Paramount Network, and CMT.
Then, on Monday (December 12), the nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced. Chastain earned a nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film. Other nominees include Julia Garner (Inventing Anna), Lily James (Pam & Tommy), Julia Roberts (Gaslit), and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout.)
This news came as a huge surprise to fans, since the nominees were revealed just one day after the second episode of George & Tammy aired.
George and Tammy’s daughter, Georgette, reacted to the news on social media. She said, “Congratulations Jessica Chastain !!! Much deserved nomination!! I’m so happy for you and absolutely so proud!”
After learning about her nomination, Chastain said she was “so happy and honored” to be recognized:
“I have so much respect for Tammy Wynette and her legacy was what kept me going through all the ‘bad times’, the ‘good times’ and all of filming #GeorgeAndTammy,” she said. “I can’t wait for you all to see the rest of the series!“
Chastain also shared a behind-the-scenes clip that shows the scene when she sings “Stand by Your Man.” Watch that clip and read her reaction to her Golden Globe nomination in the post below.
The Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 10, 2023. We wish Chastain the best of luck!
