How To Help The Families Of The D.C. Plane Crash Victims

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, An American Airlines Regional Jet And A U.S. Army Black Hawk Helicopter Collided Mid-Air Near Washington, D.C.

The American Airlines plane, traveling from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C., with 64 passengers on board, was just minutes from landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when it collided with a helicopter carrying three soldiers. Officials confirmed the next day that there were no survivors from either aircraft.

Authorities are still carrying out a recovery mission to retrieve the victims from the Potomac River, where both the plane and helicopter came down after the crash.

Authorities Are Beginning To Identify Victims Of The Crash

As more details emerge about this tragedy, the identities of the victims are gradually being released. Among the first confirmed were members of the U.S. Figure Skating Team, who were returning from the national championship.

Others identified include the crew members aboard American Airlines Flight 5342 and the soldiers on the Black Hawk helicopter.

How You Can Help The Families Impacted By The D.C. Plane Crash

The number of charities and fundraisers supporting the families who lost loved ones in the mid-air crash continues to grow. These families are facing the heartbreak of losing spouses, parents, grandparents, and close friends.

If you would like to help or donate to these families as they deal with this unimaginable loss, a list of resources is available below.

  • Wendy Shaffer’s Family – Wendy was a wife and mother of two young boys, ages 3 and 1. Her friends and community have set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for funeral expenses, childcare, and other essential needs as her family navigates life without her.
  • Meal Train for Casey Crafton’s Family – Casey Crafton was among the victims of the crash, leaving behind his wife and three boys. A meal train has been set up for those in the Salem, Connecticut area to sign up and bring meals to the family. The page also provides information on donating money to support them during this difficult time.
  • Mikey Stovall Family – A GoFundMe has been set up on behalf of the Stovall family as they navigate life without their husband and father, Mikey. The funds raised will go to Mikey’s wife, Ashleigh, to help with basic finances and raising their son.

A GoFundMe has also been set up by the Fowl Plains Hunters Club, where Mikey and a few other passengers on the American Airlines plane were clients, to support the Southern Maryland families affected by the crash.

  • Robert Prewitt Family – Robert Prewitt was returning from a work trip when he tragically passed. A GoFundMe and Meal Train have been set up for his wife and two young daughters in the Lusby, Maryland area.
  • Tommy Clagett Family – The Clagett family has had a Meal Train set up by their friends to support Tommy’s family, including his two young daughters. Meals can be delivered to a drop-off location in the Newburg, Maryland area.
  • Brielle and Justyna Beyer’s Family – 12-year-old Brielle and her mother, Justyna, were among the victims of the plane collision. A GoFundMe has been organized by their friends to help support their family, including Brielle’s father and Justyna’s husband, Andrew.
  • Alex Huffman Family – A GoFundMe has been made by a family friend to support Alex Huffman’s wife and two kids following his passing. Alex was returning home from a hunting trip when the crash occurred.
  • Jonathon Boyd Family – A GoFundMe has been set up by a friend to support Jonathon’s wife and son following his passing. He was part of the group who were clients of the Fowl Plains Hunters Club.
  • Charlie McDaniel Family – Charlie McDaniel’s family is mourning the sudden loss of their husband and father. To support them, friends have set up a Meal Train, with meals being dropped off in the Port Republic, Maryland area. In addition, money donations are also being accepted to help the family during this time.
