Jelly Roll Says He’s “The Worst Singer In Town”
on Dec 05, 2023
Jelly Roll has had a phenomenal year this year, but is somehow convinced he is “the worst singer in town.”
Starting at the 2023 CMT Music Awards in April, Jelly Roll took home more trophies than any other artist meaning he beat out singers like Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen. He later swept the People’s Choice Country Awards winning Male Artist of 2023, The New Artist of 2023, The Song of 2023, and the Collaboration Song of 2023. Lastly, he received the Best New Artist of 2023 at the CMA Awards in November. This man is on a roll!
Jelly Roll recently did an interview with Bobby Bones
Bobby asked Jelly Roll in the interview, “Did you ever think you would be doing country music, or was that just something you knew and you loved from where you grew up, and you really were dedicated to hip-hop?”
Jelly’s answer was not at all what you would expect.
“I just, I didn’t think I had the voice. I didn’t know I could really sing until I was in my thirties. Like, had no clue. And to this day I still think I’m like the worst singer in town. I’m just learning as I go. Like, I’m getting better.”

Jelly Roll is known for being an incredibly humble and kind musician.
He frequently shares of his past struggles, and the rough road that eventually led to his great success in the music world. Jelly Roll’s unique voice and songs have sparked an interest in many music enthusiasts. The 39-year-old seems to sing songs that speak to audiences who are struggling with daily life. At the age of 14, the Tennessee native began a cycle of criminality as he spent periods of time in jail until 2009. His past and story has paved a pathway for such unique and authentic songs that resonate with a large audience.
Jelly Roll’s story is a testimony that incarceration and past life struggles do not have to define current success.
