Kelsey Asbille is officially moving on from the Yellowstone universe.

Asbille played Kayce Dutton’s wife, Monica, across all five seasons of Yellowstone. The show ended in 2024, and it didn’t take long for spin-off rumors to start swirling.

Those rumors soon became reality, with Kayce (Luke Grimes) getting his own spin-off on CBS, titled Marshals. Kayce’s sister, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), and her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), ended up leading another spin-off, the Paramount+ series Dutton Ranch.

While Marshals was being promoted, fans noted that Asbille (and therefore, Monica) didn’t appear in any of the trailers or casting announcements. Then, during the premiere on March 1st, we learned that Monica died after battling cancer. Her death occurred off-screen, and Asbille did not appear in the show.

Monica’s shocking death served as the push behind Kayce’s desire to pursue a new life for himself and their son, Tate, by joining the Marshals.

Now, Asbille has landed a new role following the end of Yellowstone and Monica’s death in Marshals.

Deadline reports that Asbille has joined the cast of the upcoming action flick The Kellys. She’s set to star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Hemsworth in the film, which will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Deadline describes the premise of the movie as such:

The Kellys follows Jack Kelly, a disgraced NYC cop whose wife, Molly, is taken hostage by terrorists inside an old armory building. Subsequently, he’ll have to join forces with the people he fears most to save her: His family.”

Details concerning Asbille’s character have been kept secret. Deadline noted that production is currently underway.

In addition to The Kellys, it was previously announced in 2025 (pre-Marshals) that Asbille had been cast in the indie film Adulting and a thriller movie titled The Technique.

Luke Grimes Shared How Kelsey Asbille Reacted To Monica’s Death In Marshals

Although Monica’s death in Marshals took fans by surprise, Kelsey Asbille wasn’t kept in the dark. The Hollywood Reporter said showrunner Spencer Hudnut told them Asbille “was unavailable” to participate in the new series.

After learning that Asbille wasn’t available, Hudnut said it became obvious what Kayce’s “why” for joining the Marshals would be…the loss of Monica.

Still, Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce, called Asbille to make sure she was doing alright after learning about her character’s tragic fate. He shared how she reacted, telling TV Insider:

We had a great conversation. In true Kelsey fashion, she handled it like a pro and totally understood. She’s going to do just fine. She is so talented, gorgeous, and awesome. She’s going to work. That’s not an issue.

Grimes and Asbille formed a strong bond after playing a couple on Yellowstone for so many years. He had nothing but kind things to say about her:

Kelsey’s become one of my best friends. She’s the coolest actor I’ve ever worked with. She’s down to earth, sweet, and kind to every other actor and the crew.

It seems safe to say that Luke Grimes will be rooting for Kelsey Asbille as she takes on her new role in The Kellys and any other projects that come her way in the future.
