Just days before his death, Kyle Busch opened up about cherishing every racing victory, admitting that he never knows when his last win might come.
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch died on Thursday, May 21, at the age of 41.
The news of his passing came just hours after his family released a statement revealing that Kyle was hospitalized and receiving treatment for a “severe illness.” At the time, they did not share details about his condition or the specific medical issue he was facing.
His death was later confirmed in a statement released by NASCAR:

Days Before His Death, Kyle Busch Reflected On Not Knowing When His Final Race Will Be
Kyle Busch’s final race took place less than a week before his unexpected passing.
He finished in 24th place during the NASCAR All-Star Race at Dover International Speedway on May 17.
Just before that race, Kyle had celebrated another major milestone in his career after winning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ecosave 200.
The victory was his 69th career win in the NASCAR Truck Series. There has never been another driver who’s won the series more than Kyle.
Right after his record-breaking victory, he stopped to speak with Motorsports reporter Amanda Busick about the achievement. During the conversation, he was asked why moments like that never get old for him.
“Because you never know when the last one is, you know?” Kyle simply said.
Kyle’s official cause of death has not been shared. Audio obtained from one of his final races reportedly revealed that he had asked his crew to send a doctor to his bus.
During the broadcast, it was mentioned that he was believed to be dealing with a “sinus cold” at the time. Kyle allegedly requested that the doctor give him a “shot” once he had finished racing.
Right now, there’s no confirmation that this has anything to do with his passing, though.
Kyle is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their two children: Brexton Locke (11) and Lennix Key (4).
“Always one of my favorite places to race.”
