Lee Greenwood Sings “God Bless The USA” As Donald Trump Returns To Site Of Assassination Attempt
on Oct 05, 2024
Republican Presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday, nearly three months after an attempt was made on his life.
Donald Trump was on stage in Butler on July 14 when a gunman opened fire in an assassination attempt, cutting Trump’s speech short. Rally attendee Corey Comperatore lost his life while protecting his family during the shooting, and two others were injured.
Trump returned to the same stage in Butler on Saturday (October 5) to finish what he started. As the former President made his way to the stage, country star Lee Greenwood sang “God Bless the U.S.A.” As the song concluded, the men embraced then saluted each other in a show of support.

Greenwood, a vocal and longtime supporter of Donald Trump, also sang the song at the Republican National Convention that took place just days after Trump’s first Butler, Pennsylvania, rally.
Lee shared to Facebook at the time that he “was never prouder to sing my song than I was last night!”
Donald Trump remembered those who lost their lives at his first Butler, Pennsylvania, rally.
Trump opened his speech by picking up where he left off and referencing the chart that previously saved his life. During his July rally, the candidate turned his head to look at the chart at precisely the same time the gunman began firing. If he hadn’t turned his head, the outcome would have been much different.
During Saturday’s rally, Trump recalled the past event, calling the assassination attempt “pure evil” and an attempt to “silence me and to silence the greatest movement in the history of our country.”
“But, by the hand of providence and by the grace of God, that villain did not succeed in his goal. He did not stop our movement. He did not break our spirit. He did not shake our unyielding resolve to save America from evils of poverty, hatred, and destruction.”
He then paid tribute to Corey Comperatore, saying, “Yet we are here this evening in record numbers … not only to mark the triumph of American spirit, but also to pay tribute to some of the best and bravest we have ever known. This field is now a monument to the valor of our first responders, to the resilience of our fellow citizens, and to the sacrifice of a loving and devoted father – a really great man.”
Corey Comperatore’s family was in attendance at Saturday’s rally, as was gunshot victim David Dutch who is recovering from injuries he sustained in the shooting.
