Gary Rossington, the last living original member of the legendary band Lynyrd Skynyrd, recently underwent emergency heart surgery, the band announced on Facebook.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary Rossington as he recovers from emergency heart surgery,” they wrote, adding that he is already at home resting and recovering.

Although the band previously said they would never continue performing without an original member, Gary and his family have encouraged them to hit the road without him, especially after not being able to perform for the better part of two years.

In 2015, Rossington had a heart attack, then had to have emergency heart surgery in 2016. In 2019, he had a heart valve repaired. After each of these surgeries, the band postponed their shows so he wouldn’t miss any dates. In 2018, Rossington did an interview with the Tampa Bay Times where he said his doctors have told him to retire for the last 15 years, but he showed no signs of slowing down.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary and we hope to see him back on stage soon!
