The most expensive estate in Tennessee, owned by the wealthiest man in the state, has been put on the market for a whopping $50 million.

Located at 1304 Chickering Road in Nashville, the 59-acre property sits in the Belle Meade subdivision and boasts neighbors such as Reese Witherspoon and Tim McGraw & Faith Hill. The massive 19,811 square foot mansion was made for entertaining as it only has five bedrooms.

Billionaire and co-found of HCA Healthcare, Tom Frist Jr., first purchased the property in 1993 and spent eight years on renovations. With the help of popular interior designer Bunny Williams, the Frists designed a timeless, southern-style home that a new owner will surely appreciate.

Frist, a Nashville native and former Air Force flight surgeon, is well-known in Music City and beyond for his philanthropic endeavors. Upon the death of his wife last year, Dr. Frist decided it was time to give another family the opportunity to enjoy this stunning home.

“The Frists are a large Nashville family who entertained several times a year, but they also have grown children and grandchildren, so they needed to build a home suitable for large groups,” Steve Fridrich of Fridrich & Clark Realty tells Robb Report. “The house has a very Southern traditional grandeur about it, but it also has casual areas for family. It’s different from many formal houses in that all the rooms kind of open up to each other. For example, the main family room is a two-story, timber-framed great room with exposed beams and double fireplaces, much like a barn, and different from the other areas of the home.”

Intricate details adorn the home such as hand-painted wallpaper in the dining room, a country kitchen with a botanical-painted ceiling, and a wood-paneled library. In addition, the estate contains a gym, a six-car garage, a game room, wet bar, covered patio, a colonnaded porch, swimming pool, tennis court and dozens of gardens. An elevator makes it easy for residents to navigate the massive home.

“The house is a one-of-a-kind home with exceptional quality,” Fridrich says. “It’s not just a large house for the sake of it. It’s like a work of art, and you would have to see it in person to truly understand the quality.”
