on Apr 01, 2024
Oliver Anthony, the country/folk singer whose song ‘Rich Men North Of Richmond’ went viral last year, has recently debuted his first album, Hymnal Of A Troubled Man’s Mind.
Independently released on Easter Sunday, the album features ten songs written by the Virginia native. Produced by famous music producer Dave Cobb, known for his work with artists like Chris Stapleton as well as notable film projects, the album offers a narrative through Anthony’s perspective.

The tracklist includes nine previously-released songs, such as “I Want to Go Home,” “I’ve Got to Get Sober,” and “Doggonit,” alongside interludes of spoken-word Gospel between songs. Additionally, Anthony introduces a brand-new song titled “Momma’s Been Hurting” into the mix.
In a video shared on his social media platforms to announce the release of his debut album, Oliver Anthony expressed in detail the significance of the album and why he chose Easter Sunday for its release.
“We decided to release this on Easter, we felt compelled to due so; heavily because of the grace that has been afforded to us by Jesus as he took on the entire sin of the world as a payment for us and our inequities,” Anthony wrote.
Anthony emphasized the inclusive nature of his music, stating that it is intended for all individuals, regardless of their struggles or backgrounds. He stressed that his songs carry a message of forgiveness and kindness, giving comfort and hope to those who feel overlooked or hurt.
“Lord knows we need all the help we can get down here and fortunately for us, we don’t have to be “good enough” for Jesus, he is a loving God that affords forgiveness and abundant grace to anyone who would trust in him, whether they be the broken, the downtrodden, the abused, the alcoholic, the drug addict, the thief, or anyone else,” Anthony added. “This is an album for you, the people.”
