Phil Robertson’s Secret Daughter Shares “Best Thing” About Seeing Her Dad The First Time

Before Phil Robertson became a Christian he fathered a daughter named Phyllis, but he didn’t know she existed until 2020.

Decades before Phil Robertson shared his life and faith on the wildly popular reality television show “Duck Dynasty,” he lived a life full of “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.” That lifestyle led to the birth of Phyllis, a daughter he didn’t know about until she was 45-years-old.

Phyllis sat down with her dad for a recent episode of his podcast, Unashamed, and opened up about always feeling like she was different and how she discovered that the man she thought was her father wasn’t.

“My siblings are full siblings to each other, and had similar characteristics…the shape of hands, their eyes, little things that you pick up on,” Phyllis said. “Just as simply as looking at them…all my life I’d be like, ‘Why are my feet different than their feet? Why do my hands look different?’ Because their hands look very similar. Mine look different.”

“One day, I was an adult, and we were in my mom’s kitchen and I looked at her directly, and I said, ‘Are you sure Wayne was my daddy?’ Something in me knew,” Phyllis shared.

Phyllis and her family traveled to Louisiana to meet the Robertson’s and hopefully put an end to the speculation that Phil was her father. The first time she saw Phil was at church. She and her family sat down in a pew during a Sunday morning service and watched Phil preach.

Phyllis became a Christian years before meeting her “Duck Dynasty” family. She told Phil that the best thing about the first time she saw him was that he was preaching the gospel.

“The first time I ever saw you, you were preaching. I looked up and I’m like ‘I’m pretty sure…it’s not blood-tested yet, but based on the research I’ve done, I’m pretty sure that’s my dad and he is preaching the Gospel,” Phyllis told Phil. “That is the best thing ever…ever, ever.”

Phil agreed to a blood test, although he didn’t doubt Phyllis’s connection to him. The reality star said that he knew as soon as he looked into her eyes that she was his.

Phyllis, who was born as a result of an extra-marital affair Phil had in the 1970s, was quickly embraced by the Robertson clan, including Phil’s wife, Kay.

“I got to hear that first conversation with mom and it was so neat because mom always has wanted a daughter,” Phil and Kay’s son Al said. “Let’s be honest, if a lot of women get news 45 years later there’s a child they didn’t know (their husband) had, it could not go well.”

“Miss Kay over the entire 45 years warned me, or at least alerted me, she said someone will come out of your past, that wild ride of living,” Phil said. “I said, ‘You think?’ She said, ‘I think it would probably be a son, but in this case she said, ‘I’m so glad it’s a girl.'”
