Hear A Preview Of Cody Johnson’s New Collaboration With Dan + Shay Ahead Of The Song’s Release

Two months after releasing his own album, Banks of the Trinity, ACM Entertainer of the Year Cody Johnson will appear on Dan + Shay‘s new record.
On August 3, Dan + Shay revealed the entire 10-song tracklist for their upcoming album, Young. Fans quickly zeroed in on the smudged-out name listed as a featured artist on Track #8, and chimed in with their guesses.
We saw comments guessing Teddy Swims, Ed Sheeran, Hunter Hayes, Post Malone, Brandon Lake, Blake Shelton, Rascal Flatts, and Kelsea Ballerini as a few potential collaborators.
But only a few people got the answer correct by naming Cody Johnson!

On Thursday (August 13), Dan + Shay finally confirmed that Johnson is the featured artist on Track #8, “The Old Guys.” They shared the news alongside a clip that shows them working on the song in the studio.
Much to fans’ delight, the clip also includes a preview of the song, giving everyone the chance to hear part of it ahead of the album’s release on August 21.
Dan + Shay explained why it means so much to them to have Johnson featured on their new album, writing:
“We met Cody at a radio show in Wichita in 2013, and have been good friends ever since. We’ve always talked about doing a song together, and we’re so excited that it’s finally happening. Hope y’all love it as much as we do!”

Cody Johnson Is The Only Artist Featured On The New Dan + Shay Album
As mentioned previously, Dan + Shay’s Young contains a total of 10 tracks. Cody Johnson is the only featured artist, with the remaining tracks just being Dan + Shay.
Track #2, “Say So,” is the album’s lead single. A press release describes the song as one that:
“…unflinchingly addresses the shock of loss and the unseen burdens individuals carry, offering a lifeline to those struggling in silence and aiming to provide a sanctuary for the listener by promising unwavering presence.”
Dan + Shay wrote “Say So” with David Hodges and Jimmy Robbins as a tribute to their longtime mentor, Ben Vaughn, who died by suicide on January 30, 2025.
They performed the song at the 2026 ACM Awards on May 17 following an emotional introduction from Lauren Alaina. The song unfortunately resonates with her as well, because her father struggled with his mental health before he died in 2024.
