The Real Reason You’ll Never See Alan Jackson Without A Hat

Almost as iconic as Alan Jackson‘s songs is the light-colored felt cowboy hat that he is never seen without.
But many fans might not know that the real reason he wears the hat is to cover two scars on his forehead that, together, “make a backward seven.” In a 1998 interview, the Georgia native told the story behind his forehead scars.
The first, he says, happened when he was about five years old. He was rough-housing with one of his sisters and spun around and hit his head on a door casing. The cut was severe enough that it required stitches.
The second happened when he was “several years older” and was once again antagonizing his sisters. He ran to the garage to grab a condenser from the distributor on the car and was in “such a hurry” that he hit his head on a glass door on his way out.
Alan adds that while he might have been a mischievous child, he was never mean, and instead described himself as a “pretty sensitive little kid.”

Alan Jackson’s Whiskey Brand Is Named After His Hat
Alan Jackson founded his premium liquor brand, Silverbelly Whiskey, in 2022, inspired by the signature color of his cowboy hat. The silverbelly color is described as a light, off-white, or a subtle tan-gray with warm undertones.
Each batch of the spirit is named after his number-one hits, in chronological order. They began with “Here In The Real World” and have now reached the fifth batch and the corresponding fifth number-one title, “Don’t Rock The Jukebox.” Alan’s daughter, Mattie Jackson, serves as master blender for Silverbelly Whiskey.
In June 2026, the Alan Jackson Silverbelly Whiskey Distillery & Museum opened in downtown Nashville. Fans can partake in a guided tasking of Silverbelly while perusing memorabilia curated by the “Good Time” singer himself. Live music, exclusive merch, custom murals, and more make it a must-visit for Alan Jackson fans.
