Reba Hosts Her First Christmas Special
2017’s CMA Country Christmas special was one of the best ever, with iconic performers sharing the stage with some of today’s hottest artists. But the true star of the show was Reba McEntire, who served as the host and the busiest performer.
As the host, McEntire sang more than anyone else on the show, and changed her costume just as many times! While McEntire certainly got her chance to shine solo, she also teamed up with some of the other artists for some spectacular collaborations.
Becoming The ‘Fifth Member’ Of Little Big Town
One artist that McEntire sang with during the festive holiday special was Little Big Town. Since the group is a quartet, McEntire wanted to make sure that she had their permission to join them.
“If you really don’t mind, I would really like to become the fifth member,” she asked.
Of course the folks in Little Big Town didn’t mind, and they happily welcomed McEntire to join them in their performance of the treasured song “Mary, Did You Know?”
Reba Sang This Before…
In comparison to other Christmas songs, “Mary, Did You Know?” is fairly new. It was originally released in 1991 by Christian artist Michael English, who included the song on his debut solo album. Since then, it has been covered by a wide array of artists, including Kenny Rogers, Scotty McCreery, and Pentatonix.
McEntire is no stranger to the song, as she recorded it for her 1999 Christmas album The Secret of Giving.
But rather than take control of her performance with Little Big Town, McEntire truly blended in as a fifth member of the group.
The five of them all sang together in sweet harmony, resulting in a magnificent performance that was music to everyone’s ears. Now you can observe the splendor for yourself by watching them sing “Mary, Did You Know?” in the video below.
