Riley Green Wishes He Could Change One Thing About His Performance On “Marshals”
on Jul 16, 2026 • Updated Jul 16, 2026

Spoiler alert for Season 1 of Marshals.
Country music singer Riley Green made his acting debut in the first season of the Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals. He played Garrett, one of Kayce Dutton’s former Navy SEAL teammates. Sadly, Garrett suffered from severe PTSD due to the things he experienced.
He reunites with Kayce and their former teammate, Cal, but any happiness between them is short-lived. Garrett dies at the end of Episode 11 after suffering serious burns in a barn fire.
Garrett’s death devastated Green’s co-stars and the crew:
“We had people on our crew who were so upset with [showrunner] Spencer [Hudnut] for weeks when they got that episode,” Ash Santos, who plays Andrea, told PEOPLE.

Santos recalled how Green tried to interject some humor into the situation:
“He joked, he was like, ‘Damn, I was really hoping I’d stick around longer,’ and we were like, ‘With your schedule? You’re always at some concert.'”
Green told Entertainment Tonight that his touring schedule meant he had to travel back and forth for the month and a half he spent filming Marshals.
If he ever takes another acting role, Green said he’s learned to “carve out some time from touring [so he] can really live in that space for a little while.”
Because he was bouncing back and forth between the Marshals set and wherever he needed to be on tour, Green didn’t have the time to fully explore who Garrett was. That’s one thing he wishes he could change.
“I feel like I didn’t know enough about the character,” he told Theo Von during a recent appearance on his This Past Weekend podcast.
He continued to say, “I was getting the script for that day, and I didn’t know any of the backstory. So when I went and watched it, there were so many things I would’ve done differently if I would’ve known this about the character, or that. I would have really enjoyed if I could’ve just lived in that world and filmed for a month.”

Riley Green’s Next TV Role Will Look A Little Different – He’s Going To Be A Coach On The Voice
Riley Green has expressed interest in acting again, but so far, hasn’t confirmed any appearances in another scripted series. However, he will be back on your TV screen soon, just in a slightly different role.
Green signed on to serve as one of the coaches on Season 30 of The Voice! This is his first time sitting in the famous red chair.
He’ll be joined by returning coaches Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine, and fellow newcomer Queen Latifah. The season is slated to debut on Monday, September 21.
While speaking with Theo Von, Green shared his wild idea to shake up the format of the blind auditions. He joked:
“I think the chairs [should] start facing the contestant and then you turn away when you don’t like it.”
He added, “What would be tough about that would be that you’re looking at them. It’s personal. ‘Cause the surprise when they turn, people don’t look like they sound or it’s not who or what you think it is.“
We have a feeling The Voice won’t bite on that idea. But there’s no doubt that Riley Green will bring something new to the show just by being involved!
