Thousands Of Users Lost Access To Their Favorite Streaming App

Today (April 16), thousands of users experienced a confusing outage with Spotify.

When the service went down, many users turned to the internet to determine if the issue was widespread or just affecting them.

It turns out that if you experienced the outage, you were not alone.

Spotify is one of the largest streaming services in the world, boasting over 260 million subscribers and nearly 700 million users.

According to an article in Newsweek, a Spotify spokesperson stated via email that the outage began at approximately 6:20 AM EDT and was resolved around 11:45 AM EDT.

“Spotify experienced an outage today beginning around 6:20am EDT. As of 11:45am EDT, Spotify is back up and functioning normally.” 

In the meantime, the app communicated on X that they were aware of the situation and acknowledged the ongoing outage. Their first X post stated, “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!”

This post was followed shortly by another X post saying,

Later that day, they confirmed via X that the outage was indeed resolved.

What Happened?

There has been no official confirmation regarding the reasons behind Spotify’s recent outage.

The only information the company has provided is that it was not the result of a security hack.
