In the world of live performances, especially during tribute concerts, knowing the lyrics is crucial.

At the recent Toby Keith: American Icon tribute concert, a host of talented artists took the stage to honor Toby Keith’s remarkable life and legacy. They delivered unforgettable renditions of his iconic hits, including Lainey Wilson’s take on “Beer For My Horses,” Eric Church’s performance of “As Good As I Once Was,” and the dynamic duet of “How Do You Like Me Now” by HARDY and Brantley Gilbert.

Unfortunately, one country artist’s performance fell short of the high expectations set by the evening.

Former Florida Georgia Line member Tyler Hubbard stepped up to pay tribute to Keith’s beloved 2011 anthem, “Red Solo Cup.” The song was released as the second single from Keith’s album, Clancy’s Tavern. It was the only track on the album that Keith did not write or co-write.

As Hubbard raised his own red Solo cup, the audience enthusiastically joined in. And as you can believe, it was quite the party! Even Jelly Roll and Luke Bryan were seen raising their Solo cups in a toast, singing along to the song together.

But then, Hubbard’s performance took a turn. During the second verse of the song, he stumbled over the lyrics.

Where he should have sung:

“Now, I really love how you’re easy to stack
But I really hate how you’re easy to crack…”

Instead, the audience heard:

“Now you…I really love how you…
Stack…”

Hubbard quickly composed himself and asked the audience, “Can we redo that second verse? We can’t do Toby like this.”

Fortunately, he then bounced back and nailed the lyrics on his second attempt. Despite the slip-up, fans rallied around Hubbard, cheering him on as he completed the song. It was clear that most attendees were more focused on the concert experience itself, happy to have the opportunity to honor Toby Keith together.
