Zach John King Cancels Shows After Father’s Unexpected Passing

Rising star Zach John King is temporarily stepping away from performing as he mourns the sudden death of his father.

On Tuesday, July 14th, King announced that his father, John King, whom he is named after, had unexpectedly passed on Friday, July 10th. Along with the heartbreaking news, he wrote:

“He was our family’s rock. My best friend. The greatest man I will ever know. John King was the kind of husband, father, grandfather, friend, and follower of Jesus you’ll only find once in a lifetime.”

The musician shared a series of photos and videos remembering his father throughout the years. He shared of his unwavering faith:

“Those that knew him knew his eyes were never fixed on this weary world. It used to frustrate me how joyful he could be even in the worst moments of life. In his own words, that joy came from ‘the hope I have in Jesus.'”

King described his passing as happening “in the literal blink of an eye.” He wrote:

“We wanted 25 more years with him and that pain will cut deep for the rest of my life. However, if there were ever a moment to be sure my dad is waiting for me in the very place all of our souls long for, it would be now.”

The musician announced that he had canceled the next two weeks of shows to grieve with his family. This includes shows in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Alabama. After that, he says, he will get back to work, as that is what his dad would have wanted him to do.

“I’ll leave ya’ll with what he said every morning even when I didn’t want to hear it… ‘today is the day the has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.’ I love you dad. I’ll see you soon.”

Georgia-born singer/songwriter Zach John King is preparing to release his debut album, I’m What You Get, via Sony Records Nashville this August. Since relocating to Nashville in 2022, King has racked up more than 50 million global streams from both his independent releases and singles since signing with Sony.

King credits a wide variety of musical influences for helping shape his sound, including George Jones, Otis Redding, The Police, Third Eye Blind, Switchfoot, Biz Markie, and more.

The 29-year-old is currently opening for Morgan Wallen while also headlining his own shows for his Get To Drinkin’ Tour.
