Zach Top Joins Lainey Wilson On Stage To Cover a Johnny Paycheck Classic
on Aug 11, 2024
During a recent stop on her “Country’s Cool Again” tour, Lainey Wilson brought country newcomer Zach Top on stage to perform a Johnny Paycheck classic.
Zach Top has been rising quickly in the country music world lately, capturing listeners’ attention with his old-school and traditional country sound.
His covers of country staples, such as George Strait’s “Nobody in His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her” and Keith Whitley’s “Kentucky Bluebird,” have also significantly boosted his career, leading to opportunities to perform alongside multiple country music sensations.
Not long ago, Top performed with Riley Green at the Watershed Festival, where they teamed up to sing Toby Keith’s iconic “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”
His most recent appearance on stage with a country superstar was when he joined Lainey Wilson at Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville, Alabama on Thursday, August 8, to perform a duet rendition of Johnny Paycheck’s “Take This Job and Shove It.”
About “Take This Job and Shove It”
“Take This Job and Shove It” is a 1977 country classic written by David Allan Coe. The song expresses the frustration of a man who feels unappreciated after years of hard work. It was first recorded by Johnny Paycheck for his album of the same name.
The recording topped the country charts for two weeks, spent 18 weeks on the charts, and remains Paycheck’s only No. 1 hit.
As Top joined Wilson on stage, she introduced him to the crowd, praising him by saying, “Y’all, this dude right here… he’s on fire right now.” The two then delivered a stripped-down version of the song.
Zach Top will continue to join Lainey Wilson on her “Country’s Cool Again” tour at various dates throughout the year.
