Hopeful Voice Singer Auditions With Performance Of “Your Man” By Josh Turner, But No Chairs Turn

Unfortunately, not every singer who auditions for The Voice gets a chair to turn. Sometimes, those singers return for a second season after listening to the coaches’ feedback.

Hopefully, Florida native Peter Pinnock will give The Voice another try after his blind audition didn’t land with the coaches. He covered Josh Turner‘s sultry love song “Your Man” in an effort to show off his deep voice.

Turner released “Your Man” in 2005, and it hit #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Fun fact, Chris Stapleton co-wrote the song with Chris DuBois and Jace Everett.

“Your Man” has since been covered by the likes of Scotty McCreery and The Sing-Off winners Home Free.

What Did The Voice Coaches Have To Say About Peter Pinnock’s Performance?

After Pinnock finished singing “Your Man,” the Voice coaches offered him some feedback. Gwen Stefani started, telling him she felt “…as the performance was going on, it was getting a little bit more out of tune.”

Stefani encouraged Pinnock to “go with [his] character. She believes he could “get somewhere with that.”

John Legend made a similar comment. He told Pinnock the twang he used didn’t sound like his real voice, and that pulled him out of the performance. “...it made it feel less connected to who you are. And that was a distraction for me,” he said.

When Reba McEntire asked Pinnock about his favorite music genres, he said he enjoys country and R&B. Niall Horan picked up on that. “I wish that, for you that you’d have chosen a different song to kind of show more of the R&B side of country music to show off more of your tone,” he said.

Pinnock thanked the coaches for their feedback, and said how much he respects all of them.

Head below to watch Pinnock’s audition. We hope to see him again!
