A Love Story: Little House On The Prairie’s Melissa Gilbert & Husband Timothy
on Oct 30, 2020
Best known for playing Laura Ingalls Wilder on the beloved television program Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert and her husband Timothy Busfield’s romance sparked – believe it or not – in a random bar.
To those who are familiar with greats of the silver screen, the name Timothy Busfield likely rings a bell. Busfield won an Emmy for his portrayal of Elliot Weston in the series thirtysomething.
He’s also well known for playing Allison Janney’s love interest on The West Wing, and for playing Kevin Costner’s brother-in-law in Field of Dreams.

In an interview with M Live, Busfield said of that fateful day with his future wife, “So I walked in the front door, and there was one person, sitting in my chair, at the bar. I looked, and then I stepped back outside…my first thought was, ‘I haven’t been on a date in 6 months, I’m just working and not dating, I really don’t want to date anyone right now.’ So I sort of talked to myself for a moment, and then I went in, sat at the bar, and ordered a drink. Then I saw her smile and I was gone.”

Gilbert was only at the bar alone because her friend had forgotten his phone as a previous location and had left to go retrieve it.
Something must have clicked, because the next morning Gilbert and Busfield got brunch and the rest is history.
“…we’ve been inseparable since,” Busfield told M Live.
They were married in April 2013, and one thing’s for sure: these two were meant to be.
