Meet The Actress Who Plays Beulah On “Dutton Ranch” – Here’s Where You’ve Seen Her Before

Yellowstone stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Finn Little returned to reprise their roles as Beth, Rip, and Carter in the new spin-off series Dutton Ranch. But the show also features a sizable cast of new characters.
One of the most intriguing additions to the Yellowstone universe has been the character Beulah Jackson. Season 1 of Dutton Ranch depicted her as a ruthless ranch owner, a family matriarch, and a troubled soul with some dark secrets in her past (and present).
Throughout Season 1, we didn’t know if Beulah would be a friend or foe to Rip and Beth. But following the series’ nail-biting season finale…she’s looking more like a foe.

Beulah is played by veteran actress Annette Bening. 68-year-old Bening has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including two Golden Globe Awards, two Actor Awards (formerly SAG Awards), and a BAFTA Award. Additionally, Benning has been nominated for five Academy Awards, two Tony Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Bening was one of the first stars to sign on to Season 1 of Dutton Ranch. Her involvement was confirmed in August 2025, nearly one full year before the series premiered.
Her performance as Beluah has since captivated countless viewers and left them asking…where have they seen her before?
Which Shows & Movies Was Annette Bening Known For Before Dutton Ranch?
There’s a good reason why you may recognize Bening. She’s starred in many memorable projects over the years, which have led to her long list of awards and nominations.
Bening’s breakout moment came in 1990, when she starred alongside John Cusack and Anjelica Huston in the crime thriller film The Grifters. Bening received her first Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of the character Myra Langtry.
In the years that followed, Bening was nominated for two additional Academy Awards, for her performances in 1999’s American Beauty and 2004’s Being Julia. The former film led to her BAFTA win, while the latter earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
Bening received another pair of Academy Award nominations years later, for her performances in 2010’s The Kids Are All Right and in 2023’s Nyad. She won her second Golden Globe Award for her performance in the former project.
People may also be familiar with Bening’s performances in The American President (1995), Open Range (2003), Liberty’s Kids (voice role in five episodes, from 2002-2003), Mrs. Harris (2005), Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool (2017), Captain Marvel (2019), and Apples Never Fall (2024).
Bening has been married to Bonnie and Clyde actor Warren Beatty since 1992. They have four children together.
