Baylee Littrell Advanced Into Idol‘s Top 20 Before His Elimination

Sadly, Baylee Littrell was forced to say “goodbye” to American Idol following his elimination on Monday night’s (April 21) episode.

The night prior (April 20), Baylee was one of the Top 20 contestants who sang during the special “Songs of Faith” episode. The three-hour program aired on Easter Sunday and featured faith-based performances from the Idol judges, contestants, and special guests.

Judge Carrie Underwood closed the show with a glorious rendition of “How Great Thou Art.”

For his performance, Baylee sang a song recorded by his father, Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell. Titled “Gone Without Goodbye,” Brian released the track in 2006 and dedicated it to the victims of 9/11.

After his emotional performance, Baylee revealed that his own mother was supposed to be on one of the planes that struck the World Trade Center. She and Brian watched Baylee sing “Gone Without Goodbye,” and both of them teared up during his performance.

After that performance, Baylee’s fate was left in America’s hands. Voting opened to the viewers and remained open until Monday, April 21.

Later that evening, the Top 20 gathered to learn who would advance into the Top 14. Host Ryan Seacrest revealed the contestants’ fates one by one, sharing whether America’s votes saved them or if they were in jeopardy of elimination.

America saved ten contestants, leaving ten others at risk. Those contestants sang for the four remaining slots in the Top 14, with the judges picking the four singers who advanced.

Baylee found himself in jeopardy. So, he sang John Legend‘s “All of Me” in a last-ditch effort to remain on the show.
