In the days leading up to Sunday’s 60th annual Grammy awards, numerous other parties and events were going on behind the scenes as various artists celebrated their nomination or were honored with other awards.

Friday night (January 26) Fleetwood Mac was presented with the MusiCares Person of the Year award at the annual Recording Academy gala. Former President Bill Clinton was on hand to present the group with their award and various artists, including Alison Krauss and Keith Urban, took the stage to perform some of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits.

The highlight of the night came from Miley Cyrus who delivered a stunning cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.” The emotion was evident in Miley’s voice as she sang the well-known lyrics:

Well, I’ve been afraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older, too

Cyrus later took to Instagram to share how it felt like to sing one of her favorite songs for the original singer, Stevie Nicks, and just why “Landslide” has always meant so much to her.

“These lyrics always rang so true to me in my world….. I was ‘afraid of changin’ …. cause I ‘built my life around you,’ that always meant to me personally, everything I had built in MY life (especially my career) was based on who I was before …. everyone loved ‘the old me’ but there’s a new ‘me’ (us) everyday … we’re always shedding our skin and blossoming into older and hopefully better, more evolved selves ….. “‘Time makes you bolder, children get older and I’M GETTING OLDER TOO.'”
