Vince Gill Begs Forgiveness With His Ballad ‘I Still Believe In You’

Vince Gill. His name alone evokes memories of tearful ballads and moving love songs. With songs like “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” “Pretty Little Adriana” and “Whenever You Come Around” to his credit, the Oklahoma native has become known as one of the best balladeers in country music.

Even though Gill started his music career in the ’70s, he didn’t land his first Number 1 hit until 1992 when “I Still Believe In You,” the title cut from his 5th studio album, was released. The song also earned Gill two Grammy’s for Best Country Song and Best Male Vocal Country Performance.

What few people know is that “I Still Believe In You” was written by Gill for his then-wife Janis Gill of the Sweethearts of the Rodeo. The song gave fans a glimpse into their relationship as Gill issued a heartfelt apology and asked her for another chance.

Gill filmed a stunning video for the song at the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, Illinois. Gill sings alone on the stage of the empty theater, depicting the loneliness his song portrays.
