Cody Johnson sends shivers through the MLB crowd with his beautiful rendition of the National Anthem
Texas-born country singer Cody Johnson was selected to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” ahead of the 2024 MLB All-Star game in Arlington tonight (July 16).
The “‘Til You Can’t” singer stood mid-field and removed his hat before launching into our nation’s anthem. The crowd sang along and players stood solemnly with their hats over their heart throughout the performance.
The crowd was visibly moved by the performance and erupted in a chorus of cheers after CoJo sang the final note.
Cody Johnson’s anthem performance follows that of a fellow country artist whose rendition received heavy backlash
The night prior (July 15), country singer Ingrid Andress performed the National Anthem ahead of the MLB Home Run Derby. The four-time Grammy nominee struggled through the performance, sang off-key, and failed to reach the high notes. The performance received extensive criticism, with some calling it one of the worst renditions they had heard.
She has since apologized for the unfortunate performance, admitting that she was intoxicated and would be checking herself into a rehab facility to get the help she needs. Read her statement below.

Cody Johnson is not afraid to speak of his love for his country
Cody Johnson is one of the most openly patriotic country artists in country music today. He regularly takes time during his concerts to honor first responders and the men and women who serve our country overseas.
Most recently, Johnson was just about to perform at the Windy City Smokeout in Chicago when news broke of the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. He paused the show to address the terrifying situation and said:
“The fact that any American citizen would think that what they did today would solve a problem in this country is absolutely disgusting. You want to solve a problem in this country, on Election Day, go in there and vote for who you want … Because before most of you were born, an American soldier died for you to have the right to disagree with someone else.”
