Cody Johnson Goes Into Detail About His Tattoos’ Meanings

During a recent video he filmed with CMT, Cody Johnson explained the special meanings behind several of his many tattoos.

The CMA Award-winner got his first tattoo between his shoulder blades, depicting a detailed Cross. Above that, Cody pointed out a scar from neck surgery, joking, “Scars are tattoos, too.”

Cody also has a full sleeve of tattoos on one arm, all the way down to his hand. The sleeve includes three beautiful tattoos honoring his wife, Brandi, and their daughters, Clara Mae and Cori.

Cody has a colorful tattoo of the sun rising over a field in tribute to Clara Mae. She designed the tattoo herself, and it symbolizes how Johnson calls her his “sunshine.”

Cody has a bright red rose higher on his arm with Cori’s name in the center. The rose references how Cori was born a few days before Valentine’s Day.

Brandi is honored with a beautiful piece of ink that pays homage to March, her birth month. Her name is inked on Cody’s arm in flowing script, surrounded by a bunch of blackberries and Jasmine flowers, which bloom in March.

Cody also has several tattoos that honor his home state of Texas, including one on his chest. The “red bricks of Texas” tattoo recognizes the time he spent working as a prison guard at a Texas state penitentiary.

CoJo Showcases His Favorite Tattoo, Which Is In An Unusual Spot

During a prior interview with CMT, Cody shared that his favorite tattoo is on the bottom of his foot. He asked his tattoo artist, Buffalo Jake, if he’d ever tattooed the bottom of someone’s foot before, and when he said “no,” Cody enlisted him to do so.

Cody had Buffalo Jake tattoo a line on his foot. The line references a lyric in Waylon Jennings’ song “I’ve Always Been Crazy,” which goes, “I’ve always been different with one foot over the line.”

Surprisingly, the tattoo didn’t hurt that much. Cody said it “kind of tickled” more than anything, but he admitted to being “half drunk” when he got it done.
