Drunken Peeps Ice Cream

Summertime is almost here and nothing says summer like homemade ice cream. If you rely on your local drive-thru for your ice cream fix, you’re missing out!

We’ve created a recipe that will take your homemade ice cream to the next level. It includes two of our favorite things: Peeps marshmallow candy and Jack Daniel’s Whiskey. Two entire packages of Peeps are melted into the ice cream base and another package is chopped up and folded into the ice cream once it has partially frozen. There is absolutely no shortage of Peeps in this delicious dessert!

NOTES:
To make this ice cream we used our favorite ice cream maker from Cuisinart. It has a 1.5 quart capacity and fits this recipe perfectly. You can purchase one here.

Don’t be tempted to add more whiskey! The alcohol doesn’t freeze solid so adding more will only result in a slushy (but yummy) mess. But, nobody says you can’t pour a little Jack over the ice cream once it’s ready to serve! ENJOY!

DRUNKEN PEEPS ICE CREAM

Ingredients:
2 cups half & half
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 – 3 oz. packages Peep chicks
1 1/2 Tablespoons Jack Daniel’s Whiskey
Whipped cream
Sprinkles

Instructions:
In a medium saucepan over medium/low heat, stir together the half & half, sugar and 2 packages of the Peeps. Stir often until the Peeps and sugar have dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the whiskey.

Chill in ice cream maker per maker instructions. While ice cream is freezing, chop up remaining package of Peeps. When ice cream is almost done, stir in chopped Peeps and transfer ice cream to the freezer until ready to serve.

Top with whipped cream, sprinkles and additional Peeps, if desired. Enjoy!
