“Elvis” Movie Wins Critics Choice Award After Lisa Marie Presley’s Death

Lisa Marie Presley‘s last public appearance was at the Golden Globe Awards on January 10. She attended the ceremony to support the cast and crew of the Elvis movie.
Austin Butler, who played Elvis Presley, won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. Lisa Marie and her mother, Priscilla, were watching from the audience as Austin accepted his award. He thanked them toward the end of his speech.
Lisa Marie died just two days later at the age of 54. Austin shared the following statement after Lisa Marie’s passing:
“My heart is completely shattered for [Lisa Marie’s daughters] Riley, Finley, Harper and Priscilla at the tragic and unexpected loss of Lisa Marie. I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered“
Baz Luhrmann, the director of Elvis, also released a statement about Lisa Marie’s death. He said:
“Over the last year, the entire Elvis movie family and I have felt the privilege of Lisa Marie’s kind embrace. Her sudden, shocking loss has devastated people all around the world. I know her fans everywhere join me in sharing prayers of love and support with her mother, Priscilla, and her wonderful daughters Riley, Finley and Harper. Lisa Marie, we will miss your warmth, your smile, your love.”

The Critics Choice Awards were held three days after Lisa Marie died. Baz and Austin were in attendance, and they appeared somber as they walked the red carpet together.
Elvis won one of the seven awards it was nominated for. It won the award for Best Hair and Makeup. The other films nominated in the same category were Babylon, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and The Whale.
