Who Is Ian Munsick?
One day, Ian Munsick and Lainey Wilson gathered around a campfire with some of their friends. Everyone took turns playing music, and Munsick played a song that had everyone singing along by the time he reached the third chorus.
“It just felt timeless,” Wilson said in a video she and Munsick shared on April 13.

That song became “Feather In My Hat,” which Munsick and Wilson recorded as a duet. The track appears on his new album Eagle Feather, which dropped on Friday (April 18).
Born in Sheridan, Wyoming, on May 6, 1993, Munsick was raised in a family of ranchers and cowboys. That lifestyle continues to inspire his music today.
Munsick started playing music in a group with his dad and two brothers when he was only 10 years old. Upon graduating from high school, Munsick left home to attend Belmont University in Nashville, where he majored in Songwriting and Music Business.
He released his first album, Coyote Cry, in February 2021. That album produced the hit single “Long Haul,” which reached the 52nd spot on the Country Airplay chart and has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
His second album, White Buffalo, debuted in 2023. That album produced the hit single “Long Live Cowgirls,” which he recorded as a duet with Cody Johnson. That song has also been certified Gold by the RIAA.
In 2024, Munsick released the documentary White Buffalo: Voices of the West. The film focuses on the bonds between ranchers, cowboys, and Indigenous people living in the West.
White Buffalo: Voices of the West was named the Best Feature Documentary at the Angeles Film Festival. The movie was also named the Best Documentary at the C-47 Film Festival in Las Vegas.

Now, Munsick is adding further to his already impressive resume with the release of his new album and his new duet with Lainey Wilson, “Feather In My Hat.”
“Feather In My Hat” is a certified country love song. The track has Munsick and Wilson singing about how their partner is their rock, safe space, and star of their heart.
As the chorus goes:
“You’re the ground neath my boots.
You’re the one I run to,
When I feel like riding away.
You’re the wind in my sails, the wings on my back,
Angel you ain’t just a feather in my hat.”
As Wilson explained in the story-behind-the-song video above, she immediately connected to “Feather In My Hat” when Munsick played it by the campfire.
She said, “I mean I wear a feather in my hat too, so I think that’s why it resonated … I thought about that song from the first time I heard it.”
