Interested Tourist Approaches Tired Bison Calf Resting In The Road
on Jan 27, 2023
If you see a bison — large or small — resting in the road, it’s probably not a good idea to get out of the car.
This tourist thought differently.
In Yellowstone National Park, a tired young bison decided that they needed a rest. The calf laid down in the middle of the road, and larger bison surrounded the calf to protect them.
A curious tourist decided that he wanted to find out what was going on, so he got out of the car and approached the small herd.
The animals quickly became agitated and restless, perhaps because they felt their safety was threatened by the approaching stranger.
After a few minutes of watching the bison at a distance that was too close for comfort, the tourist eventually made the smart decision to return to his vehicle.
While no one was harmed during the incident, Yellowstone officials advise that people never approach bison and that they stay at least 25 yards away from the animals at all times.
Thankfully, the calf made out ok as well — eventually, it regained its energy and strength and was able to continue on its journey with its herd.
